Because we are all legends in our own minds

greg cryns

Who is really behind the rabid rabble rousers at the town hall meetings?

In my opinion, it is NOT anyone at the helm of the Republican party. I'm not sure they have the wits nor the money firepower to bring this brilliant BS tactic.

This is not a "grass roots" rebellion. Don't think that for a second.

This has "insurance company power" written all over it. They know that the media is the key to any anti-medicalcare victory for THEM.

And so many well meaning people are kneeling to kiss the rings of the insurance executives.

I workd for a couple of insurance companies in the past. I can tell you first hand that the executives think of the consumers as stupid slaves. Insurance companies are first and formost, businesses. You are just a number to them.

I have also had the misfortune of trying to deal with Congressmen. "Is there anything I can say that would change your mind?" If they say NO, leave immediately. That's also the way I feel about talking politics. If you have an agenda, it is highly likely that nothing that will change your mind.

Wanna bet?

Old insurance agent joke:

How do you know when a State Farm agent is having an affair?

He lost a lot of weight.

They have their home grown art, Jokers and Swastikas.

Then they call him Herr Obama. I was chastized for calling them "sick". I'll stand by that thought.

They are sick. They need help. I have a close friend who went over the edge since the election. The man has a very high IQ. He is a respected MD for many years.

Now he is just an angry old man who just went nuts listening to the right wing talking heads.

There is so much to listen to in those articles, Bruce.

We cannot just let the Brown Shirts take over like they did in Nazi Germany.

The analogy is spot on. We need to control them. By "we" I mean all sane Americans.

Fran,

I am watching this video right now. Paused to let it open up more.

It is interesting. The main problem I have with "the mob" is that they have been frightened into doing things they would not normally do.

Like saying Obama is pro-euthanasia. Would you please help out an old Catholic altar boy and tell me just where they come up with a statement like that? Do you think these mob people read any of the mysterious bill?

There are a host of other probable falsehoods and inaccuracies being spouted. How do I know? Well, I watched some of these people in action at various town hall meetings. They find it hard to discuss when they foam at the mouth. I asked my more subdued but informed friends in the medical filed and they cannot back up some of these claims on what the Obama bill has in store for the country.

What I do believe is that there is plenty of room for medical reform. Even many Republicans say that in all candor. All I want is that people who cannot afford medical insurance for any reason be allowed to accept help from the govenrment to get covered.

Surely our best and brightest can figure out something. It does not have to be a big government controlled reality. We already have a one-payer system the way I see it. It's called health insurance. That is not really working well for all of our citizens. If you say it is, then I heartily challenge you to show how it does benefit ALL citizens.

It's easy to say "I am against government run insurance" but not so easy to say "here is a real solution." Please don't side with the do-nothing Republican Party.

Fran,

You might gain a little respect around here if you stop using those rabble rousing avatars. I dnn't care if you don't want to show your face, but it does make one wonder what you are hiding.

I have a few of my own ideas I am working on but I don't want to squander my time with someone who probably cannot come half way across the aisle or who thinks people who make less than $40,000 a year should give up their kids to the government. Were you kidding about that? No answer means you were not kidding in my book.

There you have it. Take it or leave it. But I'll tell you what.

There will be government controlled medical care if you and your conservative friends don't reach out and compromise. The Dems will bond together and pick up one or two Republicans. That defeats the filibuster and you wind up with something you were not willing to negotiate. That's your problem and my problem to some extent as well.

So, we will be chatting about ways and means to fix the medical care problem in America or we won't be talking at all. Which is pretty much what we are doiing now.

Euthanasia

There are many people in the current medical system who cannot afford chemotherapy for their cancer. Many of these people go untreated at all except when the doc says, "I'm sorry to tell you that you have bad cancer, dude."

By leaving the system intact with no reform, are we not practicing a form of euthanasia on these poor folks?

Why is it that conservatives have this love affair with very old people who are sick and dying? Apparently sending young folks to die or lose limbs for us in far off places is not problematic for them. Strange?

Greg, Greg, Greg... the Democrats have a filibuster proof majority already. If 'the won' could get all the Dems on board he would get the health insurance reform he wants.

Fran cubed.

Obviously. IF he can get all on board. Are you assuming he can do that? Why? I assume that not all Dems will line up behind Obama. And that is as it should be if each Senator voted with his heart and with his constituents. Not all Republicans are opposed to reform. Again, as it should be.

What's with "the won" stuff? I see that on #tcot a lot. Please speak English, not conseralish.

Hey, I'm listening to the Arlen Specter meeting right now. Believe me, I do understand people's frustration with the assholes in Washington. And most of them are. I am not a Democrat or Republican and I am glad to be able to say that. I refuse to vote for a ONE party system.

My wife and I delivered 32,000 signatures to the local State rep in San Luis Obispo. We got the cold shoulder. We tried to act as Democracy participants. All we received for our efforts was bullshit answers. So, I do understand people's frustrations with blockhead legislators who are controlled by money, not our interests.

In no way does that mean I oppose the concept on National healthcare. We already have a one payer system. Why all the squawking about that? I hear people saying they want to keep their current insurance plan. Will they want to keep it when the price doubles? I predict that if the current system continues, millions more will go uninsured.

You've already stated that you are happy with your situation. I hope you don't become what we used to call "uninsurable". You could. The best laid plans of mice and men.....

I hear people in the audience at Speter's meeting say "Tort reform!"

Too bad the world is filled with people who have no idea how to make a cogent argument.

They say "America does not want healthcare reform." Bullshit. Some people does not make "America."

At Specter's meeting there are only Republicans speaking up. I think Dems should get up and speak just as loudly. They are there too. But it leaves the impression that most people do not want Obama's plan. That is not true.

I hope you are watching/listening to this meeting. You would be embarassed by your anti-Obama buddies. You might feel sorry for them, as I do, but not particularly proud of them.

The poll results show only 42% of Americans support the healthcare reform plan spearheaded by President Obama and the Democratic Party. A record 53% of Americans are opposed to the plan. Since Rasmussen Reports have been polling on healthcare reform starting six weeks ago, the public approval rate has fallen eight points and the public disapproval rate has risen by nine percentage points.
So any more PROOF of the corporate backing?
Or we still relying on ONE leaked memo as proof?

Why, you may ask, would men of power and fame shake the rough, unmanicured hands of gun enthusiasts, conspiracy theorists, gay-haters, misogynists and racists?

Trent,

Just one quick point: you will never ever see who started the little sound bites that people are using at the town hall meetings. That is how a good propaganda campaign works. You make people think there is no one behind it.

I don't want to read that alternet article because I will come out saying it is NOT hypocritical and you will simply shoot back that I can't see the forest through the trees. I've lost my taste for political discussions though I will keep pounding on the medical care issue since it is near and dear to my heart.

There is no way I can change your mind. That's not a bad thing, it's just the truth. You have a mindset, right?

Pull the plug on grandma! LOL

George Carlin said, "If I am in the hospital DON'T PULL THE PLUG!"

greg (who thinks this country is still run by idiots after eight years of the most intellectually lazy idiot President of the short and exciting history of America)

Think for yourselves! Defeat the two party system that is ruining a great country. Oh, and by the way, country borders are the death knell of the human race.
