I found this from another podcast i listen to, called "Backstory," which deeply explores American history and how it relates today. Recently, they did an episode on the Forth of July. The episode (and the podcast in general), was excellent and I highly recommend it, but what really striked me was, in the end, a speech from Frederick Douglas on the day after the Forth, about Independance Day and how it relates to black Americans.
