The Mathew Shepard anti hate crimes bill, Revisited
If the Obama administration does one thing of importance and nothing more they would have done allot with passing The Mathew Sheppard Anti Hate Crimes Bill.
I have also asked my local congress representative Amy Klobuchar to amend into the bill, the wording that would ban internet anonymity. Thusly banning fake ID's and IP proxies. In essence you are who you are on the internet.
And now that wording has some teeth. Like Mathew Shepard, Megan Meier can now be a bill. The Megan Meier anti anonymity and bullying bill of 2009. Megan Meier died because some adult bullied her. Not some kid, an ADULT.
There are already protections for children, but there is a need and there has always been a need to protect adults on the internet. Haven't there been enough cases of internet stalking and preditary attacks to garner such a bill.
I think there is, and there should be, even if a lone bill or written within the Mathew Shepard anti hate crimes bill.
The passing of the Mathew Shepard Act is a HUGE step in what can only be described as the right direction.

You may have a knock on the door. There is a national campaign made up of volunteers canvasing neighborhoods asking donations for advertising and whatever needs to be done to get this bill passed with the new congress.
When I got the knock on the door all he needed to say is Mathew Shephard, and I asked "what do you need?". I know there are actually people that oppose this bill, and for one group, they claim if passed that they will be persecuted under the law.
Believe me when I say that the irony of that, is not, in anyway, lost on me.
